Last night, Vivian Kubrick, wife of the late director of such monoliths of filmmaking as 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and Eyes Wide Shut, along with long time Kubrick film producer and brother-in-law, Jan Harlan made an unscheduled surprise appearance at the 2017 SWC Film Festival to officially premiere this untitled short film, directed by Kubrick in 1985, shortly before filming began on his Vietnam War film Full Metal Jacket. The short was met with thunderous applause and the only standing ovation of the evening. Afterwards, Mrs. Kubrick gave a short explanation for it's being kept hidden. Saying that "...Stanley never intended to release it in any form...[due to it's brief length]" and that after Kubrick died suddenly in 1999 it was "lost at the bottom of some box of Stanley's old things". It was recovered in 2014, and secretly restored by a BFI special committee in 2016. And has since been uploaded to youtube, as linked below.
